An Introduction to the types of work passes in Singapore
The Employment Pass (EP) is a work visa for foreign professionals, managers, executives and other skilled professionals to work in Singapore. The minimum salary required is S$4,500 a month.
The EntrePass is a work visa for foreign entrepreneurs who want to set up a business in Singapore.
The Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) is a work visa for high-earning current EP holders or overseas foreign professionals. The minimum salary required is S$12,000 a month and S$144,000 for the previous year, and S$18,000 a month, respectively.
The S Pass is a work visa for mid-level skilled workers. The minimum salary required is S$2,500 a month.
The Dependant’s Pass is a relocation visa for family members of EP, EntrePass, PEP and S Pass holders.
The list is not all-inclusive, and Singapore offers many other passes such as the Work Permit for foreign workers and the Long Term Visit Pass, to name a few.
Applying for permanent residence in Singapore
The most commonly used scheme for earning permanent residency in Singapore is the Professional, Technical Personnel and Skilled Workers Scheme (PTS Scheme). Under this scheme, foreign professionals working in Singapore under an EP, EntrePass, PEP or S Pass can apply for permanent residence.
The Global Investor Program Scheme (GIP Scheme) applies only to high-paying individuals and entrepreneurs keen on investing in Singapore companies. A few requirements are to be met, such as having a minimum track record in entrepreneurial and business activities of 3 years.
Other schemes such as the Foreign Artistic Talent Scheme (ForArts Scheme) are available in Singapore.
